1,061 bad debt judgments were awarded against companies and consumers in the first 3 months of 2015 - 77% of these were against individuals.

These awards against consumers had a combined value of E84.3m - an average of over E103,000 per judgment. A further 245 judgments were made against companies and had a total value of E10.2m.

While the number of judgments against consumers dropped this quarter compared to the same period in 2014 (816 v 839), the overall value increased by E24.4m (E84.3m v E59.9m).

537 judgments against consumers were awarded to either the Revenue Commissioner or the Credit Unions - these had a combined value of E16.9m.

86 judgments worth E52.4m were awarded to the banks against consumers - an average of almost E610,000 per award. The banks also received a further 9 judgments worth E5.7m against corporate entities.
